Collaborated with a process engineer on a ‘high speed rundown’ project, saving over 50 seconds per engine assembly, and learned Atlas Copco Power Focus software making required changes to rundown speed
Repurposed a locking tool for the crankshaft to ensure bottom dead centre was reached for each set of pistons during the piston stuffing process, preventing bearing shells from falling during the process
Helped with the analysis of RTV bead application for the rear cover due to leaks found in previously built engines, including the capability checks using Minitab, sending parts for measurements, and replacing springs and spindles on the automated rundown robot
Developed a ‘torque to yield’ rundown strategy to better control permanent bolt elongation and clamp load for the flexplates and DMF
Adjusted the limits for transitional force for the idler gear bush to prevent unwanted failures, and set up the TOX program to record the force value for future analysis if required
Became proficient in using specific software required, including Excel, Minitab and Engineering Workstation for data analysis and Atlas Copco software to make changes to process programs on stations
Produced ‘error proofing check sheets’ for the AJ1133 assembly line, with regular audits to ensure checks were completed at required frequency
Created several ‘in process deviation’ requests as required for station breakdowns, including obtaining approval from management from different teams across the plant, and seeking extensions and closures
Assisted the materials laboratory for a week, performing a range of investigations including hardness testing, checking for defects in crankshaft with UV light, and microscopic analysis of fixing structure by preparing samples and taking photographs
